CULINARY EXPEDITIONS IN TURKEY began as the result of owner and operator Kathleen O’Neill’s passion for Turkey and it’s wondrous culinary heritage. After repeated journeys to Turkey which began in the late 1980’s, she made her primary home along the coast of Turkey and began food exploration in earnest: meeting local food producers, acquainting herself with regional plant and spice use, documenting traditional and regional recipes and always, cooking with local people who are passionate about their own cuisine. In 1996, she began designing itineraries for adventurous travelers who wished to explore Turkey’s great culture through it’s food, markets, producers, chefs and home cooks, be it a street market exploration of Istanbul or an indulgent culinary cruise along the Turquoise Coast or an intimate look at the culinary culture of the southeast. In addition, the company develops programs for professional food writers and chefs, business associations and trade organizations. Kathleen maintains her membership in several culinary organizations: the IACP, the International Association of Culinary Professionals, and the SFPFS, the San Francisco Professional Food Society.
